Miroslav Holinka is a prospect to keep an eye on when the Vancouver Canucks select 189th at the 2024 NHL Draft.
With the 2024 NHL Draft approaching, it's time to look at some prospects that may be available to the Vancouver Canucks. While the Canucks do not have a first or second-round pick, this a deep class that will have talented players available throughout. Today's prospect is forward Miroslav Holinka, who Vancouver could select with the 162nd overall pick.
Holinka is a smart two-way center who isn't afraid to take on defenders in one-on-one situations. He bounced between the U20 and pro league in Czechia this season, with most of his success coming at the U20 level. Expected to make the jump full-time to HC Oceláři Třinec pro team next season, he wrapped up his U20 career with a championship, recording 14 points in 15 games during the postseason.
As for his game, there are quite a few positives that stand out when watching Holinka. He is a solid puck handler when skating at top speed and understands where he needs to be positionally in both the offensive and defensive zones. Holinka is also a player who isn't afraid to drive the net, often creating second-chance opportunities for his teammates if he does not score.
Up next for Holinka will be proving he can produce at the pro level. As mentioned, he did see time in Czechia's top division but only had three points in 16 games while rarely cracking ten minutes of ice time. There is no doubt he is a very skilled player, but he needs to take that next step if he wants to continue his development and make an impact in North America.
Adding players like Holinka to the organization is never a wrong move. The Czechia-born forward has plenty of potential and, once ready to come to North America, will have multiple years of experience playing at the pro level. Ultimately, if Holinka can continue to develop his game and become a better skater, he could be a late-round steal that ends up playing games at the NHL level.
