With the 2024 NHL Draft approaching, it's time to look at some prospects that may be available to the Vancouver Canucks. While the Canucks do not have a first or second-round pick, this a deep class that will have talented players available throughout. Today's prospect is defenceman Jack Bodin, who Vancouver could select with the 221st overall pick.

Bodin fits the mould of what the Canucks want their defenceman to look like. Listed at 6'3", 214 pounds, the Swedish defender loves to deliver massive hits and is strong in his own end. He also has some familiarity with defenceman Elias Pettersson, as the two played multiple games together for Örebro HK in the  J20 Nationell at the beginning of the season.

Bodin thrives in the defensive zone. He is positionally sound and uses his physicality to separate the opposition from the puck. Bodin is always very calm in his own zone which allows him to find open teammates and make safe clears and passes into neutral ice.

As for the offensive zone, this is one area of Bodin's game that needs to improve. Outside of a heavy slapshot, he doesn't generate a ton in the offensive zone and is looking to get the puck off his stick and to an opponent as quickly as possible. While teams will draft him for his defensive abilities, it will be beneficial for his overall development if he can add some tools in the offensive zone to his resume.

If Bodin is available, Vancouver would be wise to select him. He fits in with how the Canucks want their defencemen to play and would add some depth to a prospect pool that is desperate for a right-shot defenceman. Ultimately, he is a smart choice and one that, if he hits his potential, could be a third-pair penalty killer for the organization in the future.
