More reports are coming out about Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko's injury timeline.
On Donnie and Dhali, Rick Dhaliwal provided an update on what he was hearing about the All-Star's status.
As Dhaliwal reports, Demko traveled with the team to Nashville. He is encouraged by the fact that the goalie can move around somewhat normally.
"The fact that Demko can travel and walk is a very positive sign. Demko's in Nashville with the Canucks," Dhaliwal said.
There are a lot of conflicting reports about the timeline of this injury. Dhaliwal says this isn't serious, and he could return by the end of round two if the Canucks make it that far.
"A lot of this is still wait-and-see. He won't play in the Nashville series, but if they get to round two, Don, some feel he can play late in round two," Dhaliwal said. "People ask if Demko needs surgery. I'm not hearing he needs surgery. A lot of reports out there about the timeframe [say], 'Oh, it's serious, it's a serious injury, he could be out months and months' I'm not hearing that."
Dhaliwal references other reports suggesting Demko could be out long-term and miss the rest of the postseason, but he says he hasn't heard anything of that nature.
"The fact he can walk, sit on a plane, and the doctors allowed that Don, is a positive sign," Dhaliwal explained. "I'm going to assume he doesn't need crutches. This is a very positive sign for Demko. The doctors allowed him to travel, and they allowed him to walk. For me, this is a pretty significant thing. Demko in Nashville. Certainly hearing it's not as bad as people originally thought it would be."
There are a lot of conflicting reports, but at the end of the day, Canucks head coach deemed the goalie week to week.
