Coming off yet another first-round exit, Minnesota faced changes in goal that will give the spot of the backup to prospect Jesper Wallstedt. With Marc-Andre Fleury now retired, Wallstedt will have the opportunity to play in a more expanded backup role behind Filip Gustavsson. However, if this experiment goes poorly, they can bring 2025 free-agent signing Calvin Petersen in as a replacement. The Wild also acquired Vladimir Tarasenko from the Detroit Red Wings in a salary cap dump deal.

The Wild have not made it past the first round of playoffs in a decade. With that being said, they’ve also made the playoffs in all but two seasons since then (including taking part in the qualifying round of the 2020 Bubble Playoffs). Because of this, it’s safe to say that some changes need to come about. While they have been consistent in contending for playoffs, once they get there, they don’t end up doing a whole lot. The Western Conference is likely to look similar to last season, meaning that Vancouver and Minnesota will probably be battling each other for a wild card spot once again.
Vancouver’s first game against the Wild is on November 1, in the second stop of a three-game road trip across the middle of the U.S. The Wild visit Vancouver on December 6 in what will be the second game of a back-to-back at home for the Canucks. Finally, in what could be one of the most important games of the season in terms of their playoff hopes, the Canucks head to Minnesota on April 2, yet another second-half of a back-to-back against the Wild, this time on the road. With how close it is to the time that many teams clinch playoff spots, this final game could have a massive impact on both Vancouver and Minnesota’s postseason hopes.
Game 1: November 1, 4:00pm PT @ Xcel Energy Center
Game 2: December 6, 7:00pm PT @ Rogers Arena
Game 3: April 2, 5:00pm PT @ Xcel Energy Center
