Here is a breakdown of each Canuck’s performance during the preliminaries as well as who they will be facing in the next round.

    USA 5, Finland 2

A dominant performance by Conor Garland helped propel Team USA to the seminfinals with a 5–2 win over Finland. The Canucks forward opened the scoring with a power play tally five minutes into the game. He also scored the game-winning goal while on USA’s third power play of the game. Garland put four shots on Finland’s net and played the fourth-most minutes on his team with 18:41 in the game. His efforts resulted in him being named “Player of the Game,” which he also earned in the team’s 6–3 win against Germany during the preliminary round. Drew O’Connor did not register a point today, but had one shot on net and played 13:32 minutes.

    Sweden 5, Czechia 2

In the battle of Canucks defenders, it was Marcus Pettersson and Sweden who emerged victorious, beating Filip Hronek and Czechia to claim a spot in the semifinals. Because of this, Hronek is the first Canuck in the tournament to be eliminated from contention. With the loss, Czechia places sixth in the overall standings. In today’s match, Pettersson had one assist and was +3 in 18:41 played, while Hronek had one shot on net and continued to lead Czechia’s defensive core with 25:24 minutes played on the day. With Sweden’s win, they will face fellow Canucks Garland and O’Connor in the semifinals on May 24. Because of this, at least one Canuck is guaranteed to make the tournament’s gold medal game.
