Garland, one of Team USA’s assistant captains, had a pretty successful preliminary tournament that included being named “Player of the Game” in a 6–3 win against Germany on May 17. He had two goals and five assists in seven games and had the second highest shots on goal of Team USA with 22 — Tage Thompson led the way with 36. His shooting percentage in the past seven games came to just under 10%. In his seven games, Garland averaged 16:43 minutes played per game. On May 20, he logged a tournament-high 20:10.

O’Connor slotted into all seven of Team USA’s games, fitting in all across the lineup. He started the preliminary round on May 9 on a line with Garland and Frank Nazar, but ended it on May 20 alongside Matty Beniers and Tage Thompson. He had a goal and three assists in seven games, registering six shots on goal this round and playing an average of 14:06 minutes on ice.
Czechia relied on Hronek quite a bit during the preliminary round of the tournament, as the defender was the only member of his team to average more than 20 minutes played per game (21:06). He also had a team-high 178 shifts in Czechia’s seven preliminary round games. As well, Hronek registered six assists and 12 shots on goal. He and Czechia will be taking on fellow Canuck Pettersson and Team Sweden in the quarterfinals, meaning that there will be at least one member of the Canucks moving onto the semifinals.
Pettersson and Team Sweden had a great start to the tournament, winning six straight and falling only to Canada in a 5–3 defeat. During this run, Pettersson nabbed three assists, two of which came on the opening day of the tournament in his team’s 5–0 win against Slovakia. His third assist came on May 16 in a 4–0 win against Slovenia. In Sweden’s seven games, Pettersson had eight shots on net and averaged 17:37 minutes on ice.
