The Canucks clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2020.
The Vancouver Canucks are officially headed back to the postseason. Thanks to losses by both the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild, the Canucks clinched their first playoff berth since the bubble playoffs in 2020. Vancouver will also have the opportunity to play a postseason game in front of their fans for the first time in nine years, as the last home playoff game at Rogers Arena was on April 23, 2015.
Only six players remain from the 2020 team that went all the way to Game 7 of the second round. The six were J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, Quinn Hughes, Tyler Myers and Thatcher Demko, who all played pivotal roles in the Canucks 17-game run in the bubble. Unlike in the bubble, Vancouver won't be considered the underdog as they are projected to hold home-ice advantage for at least the first two rounds.
With nine games remaining, the Canucks attention shifts to clinching the Pacific Division for the first time in franchise history. Vancouver is also in the hunt for the top spot in the Western Conference as well as the Presidents' Trophy. The 2024 NHL regular season ends on Thursday, April 18, with the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs set to begin on Saturday, April 20.
