Welcome to The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks site’s player preview series for the 2025–26 season. In these articles, we’ll preview the players who are expected to play for the Canucks in the 2025–26 season. In this edition, we take a look at winger Nils Höglander, who is entering his sixth NHL campaign.

    Höglander's 2024-25 Season

Höglander had a difficult 2024-25 season. After recording 24 goals in 2023-24, the 24-year-old finished with just eight goals and 25 points in 72 games. That being said, Höglander did set a new career high with 17 assists and was often one of Vancouver's top forwards on the analytics scoresheet.

    Höglander's 2024-25 Letter Grade

Höglander received a C grade for his 2024-25 season. Not only did he struggle to score, but he also generated only 83 shots on goal. Ultimately, Höglander is one of a handful of players who will need to have a bounce-back season next year.

In this series, The Hockey News - Canucks site recaps individual players’ 2024–25 seasons and assigns them a letter grade based on how they performed. Today, we’ll be taking a look at forward Nils Höglander’s 2024–25 season.

    Höglander's 2025-26 Predictions

Based on the Canucks current depth chart, it is likely that Höglander will start training camp in the bottom six. While he has developed chemistry with Elias Pettersson over the past few seasons, the coaching staff may elect for players like Jake DeBrusk, Conor Garland and Brock Boeser to play next to Vancouver's number one center. Even if Höglander does spend the majority of the season in the bottom six, he should be able to have a decent offensive season if he can find ways to generate more shots on net.

Höglander also needs to find a way to be a more consistent point producer, as this is the first of a new three-year contract, which carries an AAV of $3 million. He can also show his value by potentially becoming a penalty killer or a player who can be used in a shutdown role. With a new coaching staff in Vancouver, Höglander will need to have a strong Training Camp and show just how valuable he can be to the lineup on a nightly basis.
