In the fourth installment of The Hockey News - Vancouver Canucks site’s 2024–25 report card series, we’ll be taking a look at defenceman Tyler Myers. Myers had the most games played of all Canucks defenders this season with 71, and also registered six goals and 18 assists in this span of time.

As mentioned, Myers was the most present defenceman for the Canucks this season, as Quinn Hughes, Filip Hronek, Derek Forbort, and all the rest played less games than him. The only stretch of time that Myers missed was a couple of day-to-day absences with injuries, a neck injury that took him out of the final seven games of the season, and a three-game suspension he received for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers defender Evan Bouchard during a spirited Saturday night matchup.

Earlier in the season, Myers hit a career milestone by skating in his 1000th NHL game. He played in his 1000th game on October 19, 2024 on the road against the Philadelphia Flyers, in which Vancouver took a 3–0 shutout win. In doing so, he was the 399th NHL player to hit the milestone, with former Canuck Luke Schenn doing so only a couple of days before him. With 431 of his 1066 NHL games now played with Vancouver, Myers is close to playing half of his NHL career with the Canucks.

Myers has been a polarizing figure throughout his time with the Canucks, but since the 2023–24 season, opinions have changed. This could be due to a variety of factors, such as a full season of former Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet, a slightly younger but slightly more mobile defensive core, or a significant reduction in pay last season that has made fans more inclined to appreciate him. He even added a couple of offensively efficient games this season, such as three multi-point games against the Toronto Maple Leafs, St. Louis Blues, and Anaheim Ducks

On the ice, Myers was one of the team’s more consistent defencemen, putting up points while simultaneously maintaining a defensive role. He led the Canucks in blocked shots with 125 on the year, with the second-most being former Canuck Carson Soucy’s 92. Myers also led the team in takeaways with 31, and came second in shots registered by defenders on the Canucks with 87. While there was no beating hit king Kiefer Sherwood, Myers put up a solid 86 in 2024–25 — good for seventh on the team. He had the highest minutes played on the penalty kill of all Canucks defencemen this season with 156:09 and also managed to register 41:06 on the power play.

Another point in which Myers has excelled is as a member of the team’s leadership core. 2024–25 was Myers’ first time wearing an ‘A’ for the Canucks, doing so in what was his sixth season with the club. Only Hughes, Brock Boeser, Thatcher Demko, Elias Pettersson, and Guillaume Brisebois have spent more time with the organization than he has. As one of the more senior members left in the organization heading into 2025–26, Myers will be instrumental in helping the Canucks’ young defencemen — Victor Mancini and Elias Pettersson (D), to name a couple — bring their game to the NHL level on a full-time basis.

The 35-year-old defenceman just completed his sixth season with the organization, recording 24 points and 125 blocks in 71 games. Myers also had the opportunity to play in his 1,000th career game, and is one of nine players from the 2008 NHL draft class to achieve the feat.&nbsp; <br>

All in all, the 2024–25 season was a solid one for Myers, though he could have made a bit more of a statement. For his solid efforts and contributions to the team’s D-core, he receives a B. He managed to keep himself afloat in a season full of movement and chaos, including some big swaps on the team’s back-end that saw him lose various defensive partners such as the aforementioned Soucy. Still, Myers managed to continue the solid pace he set back in 2023–24, and will look to build on that in 2025–26.
