In the opening frame, Justin Danforth got the scoring started. The Golden Knights gave up another goal to Nylander.
The Golden Knights bounced back with less than five minutes left in the first period. Mason Morelli and William Karlsson each scored to tie the game at two. Karlsson's goal was his 400th career NHL point.
Erik Gudbranson scored the only goal in the second period. A slap shot that beat Hill over the blocker.
Nylander's second goal of the game restored the Blue Jackets' two-goal lead. Chandler Stephenson made it 4-3 with his 14th goal of the season. Before the Golden Knights could make a push to tie the game, Yegor Chinakov scored his 16th of the season to make it 5-3. Nylander completed his first career hat-trick by scoring into the empty net to put the nail in the coffin.
Danil Tarasov stopped 37 of the 40 shots the Golden Knights threw at him. Hill allowed five goals on 32 shots.
