The Golden Knights have placed Mark Stone on the LTIR for the second season in a row before the beginning of the playoffs and NHL fans have been upset and have made claims that the injuries are real and that the Golden Knights are using the LTIR to be over the salary cap limit.
"It's ridiculous to suggest that these weren't or aren't significant injuries" and "Google lacerated spleen and see if you can tell when a player is going to be back" were some of the comments made by McCrimmon.
The Golden Knights used the cap relief from Stone's injury to acquire Anthony Mantha, Noah Hanifin, and Tomas Hertl. When the playoffs start they'll be over the current salary cap and if Stone can return, they would be over the limit by quite a bit.
"LTIR is collectively bargained between the Players' Association and the NHL. The idea behind it is if you have a player suffer a significant injury, you can replace that player. Obviously from there, it's the timing of injuries."
Before the deadline, the Golden Knights were going through their worst stretch of the season. They've lost nine of their last 12 games but are hoping the moves will turn things around for them. If the Golden Knights do make another run at the Stanley Cup, the controversy will be following along with them.
