Edmonton won the season series 3-1 against Vancouver. Overall, the Oilers are 9-8-2 against the Golden Knights in the regular season.

Caleb Kerney, site editor of The Hockey News’s Edmonton Oilers site, said the following about the Oilers:
“The Golden Knights can expect the Oilers to be a tighter defensive team. A new 1-1-3 neutral zone formation will slow down any rush attack the Golden Knights have. McDavid has been working on his defensive game, which should make him an even more dangerous player to look out for in all situations.”
Will they challenge for the Pacific?
The Edmonton Oilers are angry. They lost to Vegas in a physical, emotional series in the second round last season and it will likely fuel the Oilers to wanting to dethrone Vegas as Pacific Division champions, but also Western Conference champions. The Oilers lost some key pieces, but still pose a daunting threat with McDavid and Leon Draisaitl leading the way. If the Oilers improve how they perform 5-on-5 against Vegas, they will likely be the team to beat in Pacific, if they already aren’t.
