There are a few things Henderson Silver Knights forward Adam Cracknell hasn’t experienced or seen.

One of those things is to be an All-Star, which he will check off when he travels to San Jose, Calif., for the American Hockey League All-Star Weekend on Feb. 4 and 5.

“This league has given me so much it's nice build and be a part of it on a big stage just for the weekend,” he said. “Meet all the guys and see guys from the East that I've never played against before and just have a fun weekend with all the guys.”

Cracknell is having a strong season for the Silver Knights. He has 29 points in 44 games with 17 goals and 12 assists.

But it’s not only his on-ice contributions that help the Silver Knights. He brings valuable experience to the locker room filled with young prospects.

“He's obviously been around and seen a lot. He's easy to talk to,” forward Brendan Brisson said. “He's been a great leader for us, the young guys and bringing the team together a lot when we're on the road or just even when we're at the rink. He's always got a smile on his face.”

It’s Cracknell’s second stint in the Las Vegas area, having played with the Las Vegas Wranglers from 2006-2008.

This go around is much different for the 38-year-old. He has a wife and children and isn’t living in an apartment.

Cracknell said he’s enjoying the second go-around in Las Vegas, as his daughters experience it and his wife gets to live in a climate that doesn’t require shoveling snow.

It’s his experiences as a 20-something in Las Vegas and the rest of his career that are the most valuable lessons that he’s teaching the younger members of the Silver Knights.

He shares his experiences – both good and bad with the players – but he concedes that younger players need to go out and learn from their own experiences rather than simply living through his own.

“You want them to make mistakes. You want them to learn from it. Nothing crazy. Stay out of the casinos,” Cracknell said. “I care about them. I want to see the best for all these guys no matter where they are at their career.”

For Silver Knights coach Ryan Craig, who’s had the pleasure of both playing with, against and coaching Cracknell, he credits Cracknell’s personality as to a big reason why he’s a critical member of the locker room and why he’s been able have staying power in hockey circles.

“His longevity speaks for itself. You don’t stay in this game that long without being first a good person and good teammate,” Craig said. “But also, he’s a good hockey player. He’s continued to do what he has to do to be successful. He keeps himself in good shape.

“He's just a real good guy to have around the dressing room for us.”

While Cracknell is closer to the end of his hockey playing days, that doesn’t mean he’s going to slow down anytime soon. He’s taking the experience as it comes and relishing his role as mentor to younger players.

“I've been old for a while now, especially in the American League,” he said. “I want to play as long as I can. Obviously contributing on the score sheet is always a thrill but you know it means a lot more if you're able to help guys either get called up or just develop into all-around pros.

“They keep me young, so it's a lot of fun being in the room with these guys and excited to always come here every day.”
