The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly interested in former Golden Knights forward Phil Kessel.
The Canucks are enjoying their best season in quite some time and are currently leading the Pacific division over the Golden Knights. The Canucks have been all in this season making trades for Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm. They are now interested in bringing in another goal scorer.
Kessel played in all 82 games last season for the Golden Knights and scored 14 goals and 36 points. Despite playing in all 82 games last season, Kessel only played in four games during the Golden Knights playoff run.
Kessel might not be the player he once was when he was a perennial 30-goal scorer but could provide the Canucks with a veteran presence and some secondary scoring that they lack.
Kessel has a history with many of the Canucks front office and coaching staff. He played for Rick Tocchet with the Arizona Coyotes and won Stanley Cups with Jim Rutherford when he was with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The lack of game time leads to the Canucks being a little worried about his conditioning but both sides are interested in making something happen.
Watching a division rival make a lot of moves to gear up for a playoff run might force the Golden Knights' hand in bolstering up their roster.
