Moncton keeps making moves, now picking up Liam Kilfoil in a trade with Halifax.
The Moncton Wildcats never seem to slow down from adding talent. After back-to-back trips to the QMJHL final, it might've felt like a time to rebuild.
But, this summer has proven that they'll always be in the business to win, and a long-rumoured trade for Halifax Mooseheads star Liam Kilfoil Thursday proves that fact.
Going back the other way to Halifax are second- and third-round picks in the 2027 QMJHL draft.

(Photo: Trevor MacMillan)Kilfoil, 19, is coming off his third season with the Mooseheads, though it wasn't the offensive explosion many had hoped from the Quispamsis, N.B., native. Still he posted a solid 39 (14+25) points in 56 games, which followed a 46 (21+25) point campaign in 2024-25.
The 5-foot-11 centre was seen as a top prospect as a youth, and was a feature with Canada at the U17 and U18 levels. But, not being able to take over as a top-tier scorer in the Q left him undrafted in the NHL.
Kilfoil is a hard-working player who can be impactful on the forecheck and plays hard defensively. He fills a lot of boxes that Wildcats coach Gardiner MacDougall will love, and a season with a coach of that nature could be exactly what he needs.
Originally committed to join Northeastern University of the NCAA for next season, it appears the New Brunswicker will push that commitment back in order to play a year in his home province.
