Three series are now over with as the QMJHL playoffs roll on.

Just like that, three teams are off to the second round and three others are eliminated.

Meanwhile, there was a double overtime game, a pair of even series and more action across the league.

Here's what went on in Wednesday's action.

Chicoutimi (8) - Halifax (1)

The first handshakes of the 2026 playoffs came in Halifax, as the Saguenéens completed a dominant sweep of the Mooseheads in their round one encounter.

Considering how hot the Sags were, this one was no surprise, and this game was buried after the second period.

Chicoutimi will face the second-lowest remaining seed in the second round, while Halifax will start preparing for next year.

Moncton (7) - Saint John (3)

It wasn't quite as easy for Moncton as it was for Chicoutimi, but they nonetheless completed their own sweep over the Sea Dogs.

The Wildcats skated out to a 7-0 lead in this one, and some late life acted only as consolation for Saint John.

Moncton will face the lowest remaining seed after round one in the second round, their prize for finishing top of the league table.

Blainville-Boisbriand (4) - Victoriaville (1)

The third and final sweep of the night came in Victoriaville, as the Armada finished the job against a resilient Tigres squad.

Alexey Vlasov, Egor Shilov and co. definitely put the pressure on this series, but they just couldn't handle the firepower of Blainville-Boisbriand.

The Armada's opponent for the second round isn't quite as easy to project, as they're technically the fourth-highest seed. Other series will need to officially wrap up before their potential opponents come into view.

Shawinigan (5) - Sherbrooke (4) (2OT)

The road winners only series continued in Sherbrooke, as the Cataractes took a back and forth affair in double overtime, the longest game of the QMJHL playoffs so far.

Olivier Charron tied the game with 55 seconds to play in regulation, and Kody Dupuis played the hero deep into the second extra frame.

Game five goes Friday in Shawinigan, and the Cataractes will hope to keep the momentum going and buck the away winner trend.

Drummondville (0) - Val-d'Or (3)

Val-d'Or, the West's sixth seed now takes a 3-1 series lead with a shutout win courtesy of Emile Beaunoyer's 32 stops.

Maxime Coursol led the offence tonight, with two goals and an assist, while Philippe Veilleux scored the game-winner.

The Foreurs are the only lower seed with a series lead now, and have a chance to pull the upset at home Friday.

Rouyn-Noranda (2) - Gatineau (3)

The Olympiques stayed alive and avoided the sweep with a game four home win over the West's top seed in Rouyn-Noranda.

Simon-Xavier Cyr's third period tally stood as the winner, while Danai Shaiikov stoped 29 of 31 shots.

It'll be a tough task to keep the series alive on the road Friday, but Gatineau stays alive for now.

Charlottetown (3) - Quebec (2)

The closest series of the QMJHL playoffs thus far has been between Charlottetown and Quebec, and an Islanders win knotted this series up at two.

Antoine Provencher's shorthanded marker in the third stood as the game winner, as the Remparts got one back, but couldn't beat Donald Hickey in the dying moments to knot the game at three.

This one now becomes a best-of-three, starting with Friday's game five in Québec City.

Newfoundland (5) - Cape Breton (1)

The Regiment take a 3-1 series lead in this one, winning their third consecutive game over the Eagles after dropping game one at home.

Ryan Dwyer scored a pair in this one, including the game-winner in the second period. It wasn't the busiest evening for Louis-Antoine Denault, seeing just 21 shots, but he stopped 20 of them.

Newfoundland now has the chance to close out this series on the road Friday.

Next Games: Friday, April 3, 2026
