It was another unbelievable performance from Chicoutimi, winning 14-2 over Charlottetown

Just two Saturdays remain in the 2025-26 QMJHL season. Five games took place across the league last night, with Chicoutimi reminding everyone why they are the top dogs in the league.

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens have been a good litmus test to the rest of the QMJHL in how any team stacks up against the best of the best.

Most teams have failed this test, considering the Sags have lost just 14 times all season. But lately, the contests haven't even been close.

That trend continued Saturday, as the red-hot Charlottetown Islanders came into the Centre Georges-Vézina, and got absolutely smoked from the opening puck drop.

It was 4-0 after the first period, with Nathan Lecompte, Tomas Lavoie, Peteris Bulans and Alonso Gosselin finding the net.

In the second, an early goal from Maxim Masse pushed that lead to five, and the period remained that way for a good chunk of time. With 4:25 left in the middle frame, Emile Guite would score to make it 6-0.

Nathan Leek would get the Islanders on the board just over a minute later, and clearly Chicoutimi weren't happy with that, so they scored three more goals, two more from Guite to complete his hat trick, and Maxim Schafer, to make it 9-1 heading into the third.

And just in case you thought they were done there, Schafer doubled down, Mavrick Lachance extended the lead to 10 goals, and Liam Lefebvre scored on the power play.

Alexis Beaulieu got another one for Charlottetown, before Chicoutimi ended the game with two more goals, from Emile Ricard and Christophe Berthelot, to win by a score of 14-2.

This loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Islanders, who have looked really good of late, or at least before this game.

But once again, the Saguenéens have shown just how far ahead they are to the rest of the league.

In their last four games, they have outscored their opponents 44-6. And while two of those games are against bottom feeders like lowly Rimouski and Gatineau, two of them have come against Charlottetown and Drummondville, legitimately good playoff teams.

Masse scored a goal and six assists (and was a plus-8!) to move within one point of Philippe Veilleux for first in league scoring. Schafer had four (2+2) points, Guite had a hat trick, Lavoie and Lefebvre had a goal and two assists each, Alexis Toussaint had three assists, five players had two points and five more players had a single point.

It is an elite team effort led by elite superstars in Chicoutimi. And forget the Gilles-Courteau Trophy, they may just be the Memorial Cup favourites at this rate.
