Blainville-Boisbriand hosted Chicoutimi on Friday, highlighting a full nine-game slate of QMJHL action.

All 18 teams were in action on a busy Friday across the QMJHL, but most eyes were on a clash of the titans between the Saguenéens and Armada.

In a game that was billed as a preview of what could be to come in May, Chicoutimi travelled to Blainville-Boisbriand to take on an Armada team that had won nine consecutive games.

While it's maybe unfair to the defending champion Moncton Wildcats, who still sit atop the QMJHL standings, these two teams have loaded up with talent throughout the year, and both are firmly in cup or bust mode.

The first period was a fairly testy affair, with the shots ending at just five apiece by the intermission. Both teams did find a goal though, with Thomas Desruisseaux opening the scoring before Mateo Nobert equalized for the hosts with 32 seconds left in the opening frame.

Blainville-Boisbriand picked up right where the left off, with Mael Lavigne giving them a 2-1 lead 55 seconds into the middle stanza. However, the Sags would equalize just under a minute later, as import Maxim Schafer's 14th of the year putting the teams level to 2-2.

From there, Chicoutimi piled it on in the second. Alex Huang gave the visitors the lead  halfway through the period, before Christophe Berthelot scored the insurance goal late in the second.

The Armada would push hard in the third, holding a 22-4 advantage in shots in the final frame. But Lucas Beckman stood tall in just his third start with Chicoutimi since being traded from Baie-Comeau, and helped his team hold on to a statement 4-2 victory.
