The Saint John Sea Dogs have made two surprising cuts as they look to finalize their roster for the start of the 2025-26 season.

First, the team has cut recent 10th overall selection, forward Nolann Heroux. Heroux, 16, is coming off of a 50-point (21+29) season in U18 AAA with the Saint Eustache Vikings. He will be eligible for the 2027 NHL draft.

He is the highest profile 2025 QMJHL draft pick to have been cut following Gatineau's Clement Landry (No. 13), Sherbrooke's Emrick Nolette-Robidoux (No. 16) and Rouyn-Noranda's Jayden Pominville (No. 18).

Another surprising twist, the team also cut recent OHL signing Chris Barlas. Barlas, 20, had just signed with the team around a week ago after capping off a 220 game OHL career with the Ottawa 67's.

It would appear as though the team has gone in a different direction as the Sea Dogs acquired two overage forwards today in Fullerton and Ethier and another overager in OHL defenseman Daviault.
