The offensive defenseman should help replace the outgoing Tommy Bleyl's production.

The Moncton Wildcats have been the best team in the QMJHL across the past two seasons combined, and a big reason for that has been the influx of American talent the MacDougall brothers have been able to persuade to join their team.

They've just secured another potential huge coup of a signing, adding recent Detroit Red Wings draft pick Myles Brosnan for the 2026-27 season.

Brosnan, 18, played the majority of last year with Dexter Southfield school, a program that has produced a ton of top American talent that's joined the Q. He also spent a little bit of time with the USNTDP program, and played some games with the Brookline Whalers U18 team.

In 30 games of U.S. high school prep hockey with Dexter Southfield last season the Winchester, MA, native put up 51 (7+44) points, leading the team in points by a fair amount, even as a defenseman.

This elite play from the back end got Brosnan drafted, and clearly got him a ton of interest from Moncton, who all of a sudden needed an offensive defenseman.

With recent Nashville Predators first-round pick Tommy Bleyl reversing his expected course of returning to the Wildcats for a second season and instead going straight to NCAA Michigan State, there was a big gap on the top power play unit, one which the 6-foot blueliner fills perfectly.

It would be bold to assume Brosnan will be able to perfectly replace the play of the reigning QMJHL defenseman of the year, but he should be able to fill the same role to a high level.

The former Boston Jr. Eagle is committed to join Harvard University of the NCAA for the 2027-28 season, so it's very likely this will just be a one-season thing.
