These two cities look to host the prestigious tournament.

The QMJHL is due to host the 2028 Memorial Cup, and Monday's news marked a new step in determining which city will play host.

The CHL announced Moncton's Avenir Centre and Quebec City's Centre Vidéotron as finalists for the event, eliminating bids from Gatineau and St. John's, Nfld. in the process.

Funny enough, these two teams actually played each other in the 2006 Memorial Cup final, with the Remparts beating the host Wildcats by a score of 6-2.

That 2006 tournament was the last time Moncton hosted the event, while Quebec City played host as recently as 2015.

The Remparts also serve as the most recent team to win a Mem Cup, with their triumph in 2023 the last time anyone but the OHL has taken home the throne.

Rimouski was the most recent QMJHL host of the tournament in 2025, though it was a disappointing year for the Q as the final was played between eventual champions London and WHL Medicine Hat.

This year, it was the West's turn, with Kelowna serving as host. Guelph will play host next year in 2027 before it heads back to the Q for this 2028 event.

It'll be a little bit before we figure out who will be the ones to host for sure, but the field is now down to two.
