The Carolina Hurricanes saw their 12-game point streak snapped Monday night as they lost 2-1 to the Seattle Kraken.
Despite outshooting the Kraken 36-15, the Hurricanes only got one goal, courtesy of Nikolaj Ehlers.
After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with captain Jordan Staal spoke with the media. Here's what he had to say:
On the game: I thought we played well. For me, you're always looking at what you're giving up and we have gave up a few too many just from o-zone play just to be honest. Trying to force stuff and that created transition game for them. They got a couple of chances, got a lucky goal as it bounced off of us. We have to score more than one with the amount of zone time we had and opportunities. We have to find a way to get more than one.
On special teams: That was probably where they got the bulk of their looks, but in the last minute, we got some looks on the power play. They were just hunkering in at that point and you're just trying to funnel pucks through and get a bounce. We just didn't really get any of those tonight.
On moving forward: If we can play like that, we're going to be fine. Tonight was just one of those nights where we didn't get a bounce all night. We have to keep working for them, which I felt we did tonight.
On the game: We just didn't capitalize on our chances. They're a team that, when they're up, they hunker down well and they don't give you much. Lots of shots from the outside. I don't think we did a good enough job of getting in front of them, for sure, and they boxed out well. We had a chance to tie it up, but for the most part it was a good game. Just didn't really click offensively.
On puck management: There was some turnovers, for sure, and that kind of cost us a couple of goals. There could have been a few decisions with the puck offensively where we could have done a better job. Either shooting or passing when we need to. The execution, for me, wasn't there offensively. We came up short.
On moving forward: It's about the next one. We'll learn from what we had going on tonight, take care of the bodies and get ready for the next game. These road trips are tough, everyone's gotta go through them. We've got to have a little bit of a better effort and get on a roll on this trip.
