Hyland has 51 points in 53 games this season.
The Brandon Wheat Kings have named Washington Capitals prospect Brett Hyland the 41st captain in franchise history. Hyland takes over for Nate Danielson who was traded a few weeks ago to the Portland Winterhawks. Hyland now joins the likes of Ridly Greig, Braden Schneider, Nolan Patrick, Ryan Pulock and Brad McCrimmon to wear the "C" for the historic franchise.
A life long Wheat King, Hyland was drafted by Brandon 24th overall in 2018. Since then he has played 182 regular season games, recording 73 goals and 137 points. Originally from Edmonton, he has been part of the leadership group the last two seasons.
As mentioned, Hyland is also an NHL drafted prospect, being selected by the Capitals 200th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He was the third Wheat Kings player drafted last year, with Danielson and Carson Bjarnason being the others. He will captain his first game for Brandon on Feb. 22, 2024 when the Wheat Kings visit the Prince Albert Raiders.
