Day two of the 2024 IIHF World U18 Championship featured plenty of exciting matchups, including Canada defeating Czechia 6-0. Like in their first win of the tournaments, WHLers played a crucial role in Canada's victory on day two. Here is a look at three WHLers who had standout performances on April 26.
Tij Iginla- Kelowna Rockets/Canada
Tij Iginla was a shot machine in Canada's win over Czechia. The Kelowna Rockets forward scored twice and finished with a game-high eight shots in 17:31 of ice time. The top prospect currently leads the tournament with 11 shots on goal and is also the only player with a shorthanded goal through the first two days of the event.
Gavin McKenna- Medicine Hat Tigers/Canada
Just like yesterday, Gavin McKenna put on a show for Canada. The Medicine Hat Tigers forward had a goal and two assists despite only playing 13:34 of ice time. The tournament co-leader in points with five, he continues to be a leader on this team despite being one of the youngest players in this year's tournament.
Harrison Brunicke- Kamloops Blazers/Canada
The high-minute man for Canada today was Harrison Brunicke. The Kamloops Blazers' defender had 19:58 of ice time and finished the game with two shots on net. While his stats don't pop off the page, Brunicke's work while down a man was noticeable as he helped Canada go perfect on the penalty kill.
