The 2024 IIHF World U18 Championship is underway, with WHLers already making an impact. Day one of the tournament saw 14 WHL players suit up for either Canada or Czechia, with both teams claiming victory in their first games. Here is a look at three WHLers who put together impressive performances on day one of the tournament.

    Gavin McKenna- Medicine Hat Tigers/Canada

Gavin McKenna started his tournament off with a bang. Named Canada's player of the game, the Medicine Hat Tigers forward had two goals and four shots in 14:16 of ice time. Described by many as a generational prospect, the 16-year-old has shown just how dangerous he can be when given time and space.

    Maxmilian Curran- Tri-City Americans/Czechia

Maxmilian Curran scored the game-winner and added an assist in Czecia's 3-0 win over Switzerland. The Tri-City Americans forward also finished with five shots goal while going six for eight in the faceoff dot. Ranked 58th among North American Skaters, his stock should rise if he can replicate performances like he had against Switzerland.

    Charlie Elick- Brandon Wheat Kings/Canada

On the blue line, Charlie Elick had a solid game for Canada. The Brandon Wheat Kings' defender had an assist along with three shots while finishing second on the team in ice time at 20:42. Canada's most-used player in the third period, his strong play at both ends of the ice will be crucial for Canada throughout the tournament.
