A look at one player from each team in the Conference Finals that could emerge as an unsung hero.

While the stars usually get most of the attention, unsung heroes often step up come playoff time. Last season, players like Kyle Crnkovic and Sam Popowich played key roles for the Seattle Thunderbirds en route to capturing the 2023 Ed Chynoweth Cup. With the Eastern and Western Conference Finals about to start, here is a look at one player from each team who could become unsung heroes over the next few weeks.

Kyle Chyzowski- Portland Winterhawks

Kyle Chyzowski had a series to remember against the Everett Silvertips. The Portland Winterhawks forward scored five power play goals while also scoring the game-winner in Game 2. Going up against a Prince George Cougars team that has killed 30 of 31 power plays so far this playoffs, his contribution with the man advantage will be crucial if Portland has plans on advancing.

Charlie Wright- Saskatoon Blades

Charlie Wright has been rock solid on the blue line all year and has continued that success into the postseason. The overager had three points in four games against the Red Deer Rebels and currently leads all Saskatoon Blades defencemen with nine points in nine playoff games. Expect Wright to see plenty of ice time against the Moose Jaw Warriors as he looks to guide the Blades to the WHL Final.

Borya Valis- Prince George Cougars

Borya Valis has been fantastic for the Cougars since being acquired at the deadline. The former Regina Pats forward has seven points through nine games and sits tied for second on the team with five goals. With 3+ shots in six of his last seven games, he should play a vital role in the offensive zone against the Winterhawks.

Rilen Kovacevic- Moose Jaw Warriors

Rilen Kovacevic has been very impressive for Moose Jaw this postseason. The 19-year-old has six points in nine games and has at least one shot in each game. If Kovacevic can find a way to produce in the Eastern Conference Final, it will go a long way in helping the Warriors advance.
