15 WHLers participated in this year's CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
The 2024 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game may have been the last of its kind. According to Jeff Marek of Sportsnet, the annual event will be changed next year, featuring a two-game series between CHL players and the top prospects currently playing in the States. This year's event wrapped up in Moncton, New Brunswick, where 40 of the top draft-eligible prospects from the CHL participated in both on-ice/off-ice testing and the game.
While there are no further details on what this new event would look like, it most likely would feature CHL prospects facing off against USHL and US National Team Develop Program prospects. If this is the case, some prospects who would have been eligible for this year's event include Trevor Connelly, Cole Eiserman, and Nicholas Kempf. It will also be interesting to see how this event is scheduled from a logistical perspective, as they could play both games in one location or split the series, with each side picking one arena to host each game.
On top of the location, one problem the CHL has to solve when it comes to this game is whether they will keep the lineup the same or create two rosters for the event. If they decide to keep the same roster, that would deny 20 prospects the opportunity to participate in the event and show off in front of NHL organizations. While this will not affect the higher-ranked players, it could prevent players projected in the third round or later, as well as goaltenders, from having the chance to show that they can impress when matched up against some of the top prospects for the upcoming draft.
