WHL Should Create An All-Star Event

An All-Star event would be a great idea way for the WHL to connect with fans.

One idea that the WHL should consider for next season is an All-Star event. Just like the NHL, AHL and BCHL, this would be a two or three-day event where the best WHLers get together and show off their talent. This would also be an excellent opportunity for fans around the league to gather as, like the Memorial Cup, it could bounce from city to city, creating memories for the players and everyone who attends.

At the moment, the WHL does not have this type of event. While the league does release Divisional All-Star Teams at the end of the year, fans never get to see how these teams would actually look on the ice. Having a yearly event would not only allow fans to see what these teams look like in a live game but also help show what division is the strongest in the WHL.

On top of the game, this event is an excellent opportunity for players to show off how skilled they are. Whether it is the fastest skater, hardest show or some of the skill competitions on display yearly at the NHL level, this could be a great opportunity for everyone around the league to appreciate just how talented these players are. It would also be a fantastic opportunity for players who may not get a ton of attention during the season to show off what they could do when playing with and against the league's best.

As for the teams, the selection could be done similarly to the NHL. Every team gets one player automatically selected, and then a fan vote helps determine the rest of the players. Once the teams are selected, they play a qualifying game, with the winners facing off in the Championship. With the level of speed and skill the top players have, it should be exhilarating watching them go back and forth in a three-on-three tournament to determine which division is the best in the WHL.

Overall, this is a great marketing opportunity for the WHL that they should consider. They can also bring back some alumni to be part of the event, combining the past and present of the league on one sheet of ice. While it would take a lot of planning, it may be worth it as the WHL looks for ways to grow its brand across North America.
