The CHL has officially announced its award winners for the 2024-25 season. The WHL was well represented as expected, with Gavin McKenna, Berkly Catton and Landon DuPont all winning awards. Here is a look at which awards the three WHLers departed Toronto with.
For the fourth straight season, the CHL's Player of the Year award was handed out to a WHLer. This year's award winner was none other than McKenna, who became the third-youngest player ever to win the prestigious trophy. Some notable WHLers who have won the award in the past include Connor Bedard, Logan Stankoven, Jordan Eberle and Joe Sakic.
McKenna had a year to remember. The 17-year-old had 129 points in 56 games and helped the Medicine Hat Tigers make it all the way to the Memorial Cup Final. McKenna also recorded the second-longest point streak in CHL history, as he finished with at least a point in 54 straight games.
Catton was the winner of this season's Sportsman of the Year Award. The Spokane Chiefs captain and Seattle Kraken prospect had 30 penalty minutes in 57 games, while also recording 109 points. Under Catton's leadership, Spokane made it all the way to the WHL Final before falling to the Tigers in five games
At just 19, Catton has developed into a premier leader on and off the ice. He continually steps up when his team needs him the most with a good example being the 2025 post-season, where he had 42 points in 20 games. If Catton returns to the WHL in 2025-26, there is little doubt that he once again will be one of the best players in the league.
DuPont wrapped up his impressive first season in the WHL by being named the CHL's Rookie of the Year. The 16-year-old defender had 60 points in 67 games, which established a new WHL record for points by a U16 player. DuPont joins a long list of WHL talent to win this award, including McKenna, Brayden Yager and Petr Nedvěd.

When watching DuPont, it is clear why he was given exceptional status this season. He is dynamic at both ends of the ice and has already emerged as one of the top defenders in the WHL. The projected first overall pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft, DuPont will very likely be back at the CHL Awards show next year.
