Boston Bruins forward Justin Brazeau is one of the Original Six club's most notable pending unrestricted free agents. With the Bruins not holding a playoff spot, the 6-foot-6 winger is a player to keep an eye on over the next week leading up to the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
On the latest episode of ESPN's The Point, NHL insider Emily Kaplan reported that the Bruins and Brazeau are not close on a new contract extension. She also added that the big winger could end up being dealt because of it.
"Justin Brazeau, I think they're pretty far apart on contract talks," Kaplan said. "He's another name that I would expect to go."
With the Bruins continuing to lose and not holding a playoff spot, it would be understandable if they dealt Brazeau. The Bruins need assets to help their future, and Brazeau could, at least, get them a decent pick.
Brazeau, 27, currently has an easily affordable $775,000 cap hit, which could make him very appealing to contenders. While he has cooled off down the stretch, he still has 10 goals, 20 points, and 83 hits in 55 games this season. Playoff teams looking for more size and secondary scoring could consider bringing him in as a depth piece.
