The Boston Bruins are preparing for what should be an eventful 2025 NHL trade deadline. At the time of this writing, the Bruins do not hold a playoff spot and have played more games than each of the teams they are trying to catch in the wild card standings. Because of this, changes to their roster are expected.
With the deadline almost here, NHL insider Chris Johnston released his latest trade board for The Athletic, and it featured multiple Bruins. Trent Frederic, Brad Marchand, Brandon Carlo, and Justin Brazeau all made the cut.
Frederic picked up the No. 18 spot on the list, and it is easy to see why. The pending unrestricted free agent has been discussed in the rumor mill all season, and a contract extension is unlikely at this stage. Contenders love physical forwards, so the 2016 first-round pick should generate interest from now to March 7.
Marchand secured the No. 22 spot on Johnston's list. GM Don Sweeney said that he is the lone pending UFA that they are continuing extension talks with. Marchand has also made it clear that he wants to stay put. However, if a new contract does not come to fruition by March 7, all eyes will naturally be on him. In 59 games this season, he has 21 goals and 47 points.
Carlo is right below Marchand on Johnston's trade board. The right-shot defenseman has reportedly generated trade interest this season, and it is easy to understand. He is a top-four right-shot defenseman with a good contract ($4.1 million AAV until the end of the 2026-27 season), so he would be a notable addition to a team needing help on the blueline. In 58 games this season, he has one goal and nine points.
As for Brazeau, he is at No. 37 on the list. The 6-foot-6 pending UFA could be a nice addition for a playoff club looking for more size and secondary scoring in their bottom six. In 54 games this season, he has 10 goals, 20 points, and 82 hits.
