Boston Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy has not played in a game for the Original Six club since Feb. 8 against the Vegas Golden Knights. McAvoy suffered a serious AC joint injury and infection during the 4 Nations Face-Off that forced him to be admitted to the hospital.
However, McAvoy has now taken a positive step forward, as No. 73 participated in the Bruins' March 25 practice in a non-contact jersey.
While McAvoy getting back on the ice does not necessarily mean he is close to returning to game action, seeing the star defenseman feeling good enough to practice with the team is certainly encouraging. Based on the Bruins' team video from practice, he is also looking pretty good with his skating for someone who has been out of action for a while.
However, with McAvoy suffering a serious injury, there is no question that the Bruins are going to be cautious with their star before giving him the green light to return. This is especially so when noting that the Bruins' playoff hopes are essentially non-existent.
McAvoy, 27, has appeared in 50 games this season with the Bruins, posting seven goals, 16 assists, 23 points, 81 blocks, 89 hits, and an even plus/minus rating.
