After the trade deadline, the Boston Bruins re-assigned Matt Poitras to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins. The move was understandable, as the 21-year-old forward had gone cold with Boston leading up to this demotion.
As The Hockey News Bruins noted earlier this week, Poitras immediately made an impact with Providence after being sent back down. In his first three games back with Providence from March 12 to March 16, he recorded four assists. Now, he is only continuing to impress offensively with the AHL squad.
On March 21 against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Poitras scored a goal and added two assists in Providence's 10-2 win. He then followed that up by scoring two goals against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on March 22. With this, the promising youngster has three goals and five points in his last two games. He also has an impressive nine points in five games since being sent down to Providence.
Ultimately, Poitras could not have responded better to being sent down. With his great stretch of play, the 2022 second-round pick now has 12 goals, 18 assists, and 30 points in 29 games with Providence this season.
