Before the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins traded Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers in a three-team trade with the New Jersey Devils. The move was understandable, as Frederic was a pending unrestricted free agent, and it was already clear that the Bruins were going to miss the playoffs.
With the Bruins trading Frederic, there is no question that one of their goals this summer should be to find a replacement for him. The Bruins would benefit immensely by bringing in a big winger who contributes offensively and plays a heavy game, as Frederic provided just that when playing at his best, especially during the 2023-24 season.
Now, a new intriguing option has hit the trade market who could make a lot of sense for the Bruins - Dallas Stars winger Mason Marchment.
According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Stars are shopping Marchment as they look to free up cap space to re-sign their top pending free agents. With the Bruins needing more offense and toughness, Marchmentwould have the potential to be a significant acquisition for the Bruins.
Marchment appeared in 62 games this season with the Stars, where he recorded 22 goals, 47 points, 79 hits, and a plus-15 rating. This was after he posted 22 goals and a career-high 53 points in 81 games with the Stars in 2023-24. With numbers like these, he would be a clear option for their top six and power play if acquired.
Another very appealing factor about Marchment is that he has an affordable $4.5 million cap hit until the end of next season. That is a bargain for all that the 6-foot-5 winger provides.
Overall, with the Bruins needing a gritty forward to replace the traded Frederic, Marchment would be a big upgrade for the Original Six club. Let's see if they end up making a push for him.
