Since the Boston Bruins traded Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline, there have naturally been Bruins fans hoping for them to reunite this summer. It is understandable, as No. 63 had an amazing 16-year run with the Bruins and cemented himself as one of their greatest players in franchise history in the process.
However, based on a new update, Marchand returning to the Bruins this off-season seems more like an unrealistic dream than a real possibility.
During a recent appearance on SportsCenter, Emily Kaplan shared where things currently stand with a potential Bruins and Marchand reunion.
"The one thing I will tell you is, a return to the Boston Bruins, that door remains closed for now," Kaplan said about Marchand.
While there is still time for things to change before the start of free agency, this is certainly not the most encouraging update for those hoping to see Marchand return to the Black and Gold.
Nevertheless, if Marchand becomes a free agent on July 1, there is no question that the former Bruins captain will generate a ton of interest around the NHL. The 37-year-old has been excellent for the Panthers this playoffs, recording seven goals, 17 points, and a plus-14 rating in 19 games. With numbers like these, he is still a star, and the Panthers have benefited big time since acquiring him from the Bruins.
