The Boston Bruins keep losing, and their playoff hopes are continuing to drop because of it. Due to this, the Bruins already traded Trent Frederic and Max Jones to the Edmonton Oilers on March 4, and more moves are likely to follow.
Over the last several weeks, Bruins players like Morgan Geekie, Brandon Carlo, and Justin Brazeau have often been discussed in the rumor mill. However, two names have now entered the mix.
According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Bruins are now also open to hearing offers for forwards Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle.
Zacha, 27, could certainly grab the attention of playoff teams looking for offensive help. The 2015 first-round pick could serve well as a middle-six forward on a contender, especially considering he can play both down the middle and on the wing. He also is signed until the end of the 2026-27 season, carrying a reasonable $4.75 million cap hit.
However, the Bruins would likely expect a pretty significant return for Zacha. This is because he is one of their top forwards, is signed for multiple years, and has heated up down the stretch. In his last 18 games, he has three goals and 17 points. In 63 games on the season, he has 12 goals and 38 points.
Coyle is a bit of a different story. A trade centering around the veteran center would be trickier than dealing Zacha. Coyle notably has a full no-movement clause and would have a three-team no-trade list if he were to waive his NMC. In addition, the Massachusetts native has a hefty $5.25 million cap hit until the end of next season.
Coyle has also had a down year this season. After posting career highs with 25 goals and 60 points last season, he has just 15 goals, 22 points, and a minus-14 rating in 63 games this campaign.
