Trent Frederic's time with the Boston Bruins is officially over. The Bruins have traded him and forward Max Jones to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick, a 2026 fourth-round pick, and defenseman Max Wanner. The Bruins also retained $1.15 million of Frederic's salary.
The New Jersey Devils are also involved in the deal, as they retained $575,000 of Frederic's cap hit and acquired the signing rights of prospect Shane LaChance from the Oilers for doing so.
Frederic, 27, was in the rumor mill all season, and now he has officially found his new home. Once he returns from his week-to-week injury, he will look to make a big impact with the Oilers as they aim to go on a playoff run.
Frederic's final season with the Bruins was underwhelming, as he posted just eight goals, seven assists, and a minus-14 rating in 57 games. He will now aim to bounce back offensively as an Oiler from here.
Jones will now get the opportunity to have a much-needed fresh start with the Oilers. The fit was just not there with Boston, and he spent most of this season down in Providence because of it. In seven games with the Bruins, he had zero points, and a minus-4 rating.
As for Wanner, the Bruins have added a big right-shot defensive defenseman to their prospect pool. The 21-year-old was selected by the Oilers with the 212th overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. In 22 games this season with the Bakersfield Condors before the trade, he had one goal, one assist, and a plus-1 rating. This is after he had seven goals, 17 points, and a plus-13 rating in 68 games last season with the AHL squad.
