Bruins Sign Prospect Defenseman To AHL Deal

Ty Gallagher Ty Gallagher

The Providence Bruins have signed prospect defenseman Ty Gallagher to a two-year American Hockey League (AHL) contract, which will kick in next season. In addition, the right-shot defenseman has signed an amateur tryout with Providence for the remainder of this campaign.

Gallagher, 22, was selected by the Boston Bruins with the 217th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Now, with this AHL deal, he will begin his professional career and look to impress in hopes of eventually landing an NHL entry-level contract from here.

After three seasons with Boston University, Gallagher transferred to Colorado College this season. This decision benefitted the 6-foot blueliner immensely, as he set new collegiate career highs with nine goals and 26 points in 37 games.

In 148 career games at the collegiate level between the two schools, Gallagher had 17 goals, 68 points, and a plus-37 rating. Overall, the young blueliner had a solid college career, and he will now look to stand out in a Bruins prospect pool that desperately needs help on the blueline.

Overall, there is no harm in the Bruins giving Gallagher this AHL deal. He will provide Providence with more depth for the remainder of the season, and the Original Six club will get the chance to see what he can do. If he performs well, he's a prospect they could look to keep around.
