Bruins Top Prospect Making Case for Recall

This Bruins prospect is dominating down in Providence.

Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle were The Hockey News picks for the mid-season Selke Trophy.

The Boston Bruins have seen top prospects like Matt Poitras, Mason Lohrei, and Johnny Beecher make an impact in the NHL this season. AHL All-Star Georgii Merkulov also received his first recall earlier this season. However, fellow top prospect Fabian Lysell has yet to get his first crack at the NHL level this season. That ought to change.

Lysell, 21, is quietly having a wonderful season with the Providence Bruins, posting new career highs with 15 goals, 34 assists, and 49 points in 55 games. However, what's more encouraging is that the youngster is improving as the season continues.

Lysell is currently riding a big-time hot streak with the Baby B's. He has six assists over his last five games and two goals and 11 points in his previous 10. This is excellent production from the 2021 first-round pick, and it is clear that he's making a case for a recall in the near future.

If the Bruins' offense starts to cool off during the final stretch of the season, it would not be the worst thing in the world to take a flier on Lysell. However, even if he does not receive a recall this season, it is clear that he is developing in the right direction and has a real shot of being in the NHL next year.
