Former Boston Bruins forward Marcus Johansson was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. However, that will officially not happen, as the veteran forward has signed a one-year, $800,000 contract extension with the Minnesota Wild.
While the Wild were able to get Johannson to stick around for a very cheap price, the former Bruins forward is still a solid player at this juncture of his career. In 72 games during the 2024-25 season with the Wild, he posted 11 goals and 34 points. With numbers like these, he gave the Wild decent secondary offensive production and should continue to in 2025-26 after landing this new deal from here.
Johansson was acquired by the Bruins at the 2019 NHL trade deadline from the New Jersey Devils. While he had just three points in 10 regular-season games with the Bruins, he proved to be a strong addition to their club during the playoffs. In 22 playoff games with the Bruins in 2019, he recorded four goals and 11 points.
In 983 career NHL games over 15 seasons split between the Washington Capitals, Devils, Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Seattle Kraken, and Wild, Johansson has recorded 185 goals, 332 assists, and 517 points.
