While the Boston Bruins keep losing games, forward Morgan Geekie is staying red-hot. In the Bruins' Feb. 22 matchup against the Anaheim Ducks, Geekie scored at the 18:49 mark of the third period to force overtime. With this, Geekie now has nine goals and 12 points over his last 14 games.
With Geekie impressing and the Bruins continuing to struggle, the 26-year-old forward has been generating interest in the trade market. This should only heighten as we continue to get closer to the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
While speaking to reporters, including the Boston Globe's Conor Ryan, Geekie opened up about the trade rumors surrounding him.
"I want to be a Bruin," Geekie said. "I'd love to be a Bruin as long as I can be. It's not up to me, and I'm just going to go out there and play. I love every guy in here, everything about the organization."
Clearly, if Geekie has it his way, he won't be dealt by March 7. However, Bruins GM Don Sweeney has the control over what happens on that front.
Geekie is a pending restricted free agent, so the team will still have control over his signing rights this off-season if they don't trade him. However, given Geekie's desire to stay put and how well he is playing, the Bruins should seriously consider extending him.
