Panthers Coach Knew Game 6 vs. Bruins Was "Guaranteed Win"

Paul Maurice knew that the Panthers would win Game 6 against the Bruins.

Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle were The Hockey News picks for the mid-season Selke Trophy.

The Boston Bruins’ season ended on Friday night. The Original Six club lost to the Panthers by a 2-1 final score on home ice, and now they have an array of questions surrounding them during the offseason.

Overall, the Bruins put together a fine effort against the Panthers, and it was an incredibly close game until the end. While this was the case, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice knew that this matchup would be a “guaranteed win” before the puck even dropped.

A few hours before the game, the alarms at the Panthers' hotel went off. Players often nap before games, so this was not an ideal moment for them.

However, Maurice certainly was happy with it.

While speaking with reporters, Maurice said this in response to the alarm going off:

“Superstitions, right? In my career, the number of times that things got messed up at a hotel, and we stay at wonderful hotels. This is not a complaint. The hotel we’re staying at is gorgeous. But if something gets messed up, it’s like a guaranteed win.”

In the end, Maurice’s gut feeling was correct, as the Panthers are off to the Eastern Conference Final for the second season in a row.
