After extending their playoff drought to 13 years, the general expectation is that they will make notable moves to try to become competitive again finally.
A handful of players from the Sabres' roster could not return next season either. According to The Fourth Period, Victor Olofsson, Zemgus Girgensons, Eric Robinson, and Tyson Jost are all likely to hit the free-agent market this offseason.
Olofsson recently confirmed that he is planning to test the free-agent market. This is not shocking at all, as he had a disastrous 2023-24 season and fell out of favor. A change of scenery could help the sniper find his old form.
In 51 games this season with the Sabres, he had just seven goals and 15 points. This came after he had 28 goals and 40 points in 75 games in 2022-23.
Girgersons is the Sabres' longest-tenured player, having spent the entirety of his 688-game and 10-year career in Buffalo. However, as it stands right now, it seems that the veteran is more likely to hit the market than return.
If Girgensons hits the market, there should be interest because of his immense physicality and experience. In 63 games this season, he had eight goals and six helpers.
Robinson was acquired by the Sabres this season from the Columbus Blue Jackets and was primarily a depth forward for them. He had two goals and seven assists in 40 games with the Sabres this season.
With the Sabres having several promising young forward prospects in their system, it would make sense for them to move on from Robinson.
As for Jost, it would be understandable if the Sabres let him walk. He struggled at the NHL level this season, posting just three goals and three assists in 43 games. He also had a minus-11 rating.
Jost's tough year also saw him get waived and spend time in the AHL. In 25 games with the Rochester Americans, he had four goals and 10 helpers.
