The Sabres have some solid free-agent options from the Maple Leafs.
The Buffalo Sabres have plenty of cap space heading into the 2024 NHL Offseason and are guaranteed to do some spending. After 13 years of missing the playoffs, it is apparent that they need to make some additions to their group.
When it comes to free agency, the Sabres have some solid free agents from the Toronto Maple Leafs whom they should target if they hit the market. Let's discuss three of them now.
It has been established that the Sabres want to add a top-six winger this offseason. Because of this, Tyler Bertuzzi is a clear potential target for the Sabres. He is not only a skilled forward but also adds grit, which is a nice bonus.
Bertuzzi, 29, would be a clear fit in the Sabres' top six and work nicely on their power play because of his net-front presence ability. In 80 games this season with the Maple Leafs, the 2013 second-rounder posted 21 goals, 43 points, 98 hits, and a plus-2 rating.
Adding depth down the middle is another objective for the Sabres this offseason. Max Domi would be an ideal addition to the Sabres. He would boost their top nine, as he is an effective playmaker. Like Bertuzzi, he also plays a heavy game, and the Sabres need more players like that.
Domi, 29, has expressed his desire to stay in Toronto. However, if the Maple Leafs elect to move elsewhere and he hits the market, the Sabres must make a push for him.
In 80 games this season, Domi had nine goals, 47 points, and 118 penalty minutes.
Martin Jones is another Leaf who could make sense for the Sabres. He would give them an experienced backup in the event that top prospect Devon Levi isn't ready for full-time NHL work next season.
Jones performed well as the Maple Leafs' third-strong goalie this season and could do the same for the Sabres. In 22 appearances, he posted an 11-8-1 record, a 2.87 GAA, and a .902 SV%.
