Could the Sabres land a big-time coach?

After missing out on the playoffs for the 13th season in a row, the Buffalo Sabres fired Don Granato as their head coach. Granato is the seventh coach to be let go since the start of the drought, with Lindy Ruff, Ron Rolston, Ted Nolan, Dan Bylsma, Phil Housley, and Ralph Krueger being before him.
After taking a big step in the wrong direction this season, it is entirely justifiable that the Sabres fired Granato. This was supposed to be the year they took that next step, but they were far from doing so. As a result, it's clear that a big change is needed behind the bench.
Speculation about who the Sabres' next head coach is already beginning after the firing of Granato. One big-name coach is being viewed as a possible fit for the Sabres, as Andy Strickland shared that he expects Craig Berube to "be near or at the top" of the club's wish list.
There's no question that Berube will generate interest around the NHL this season. He had a remarkable tenure with the St. Louis Blues and notably led the club to their first Stanley Cup in 2019. In 382 games behind the Blues' bench, he had a 206-132-44 record.

The Sabres could use a successful coach like Berube behind the bench, and it will be intriguing to see if they make a big push for him. His tough approach could be precisely what the Sabres roster needs to take that next step finally.
