This Avalanche prospect has a big decision to make.
Colorado Avalanche prospect Sean Behrens had a huge weekend, as he secured his second national championship with the University of Denver. Now, he has a big decision to make about his future plans.
Behrens, 21, has been a significant part of Denver's defense since his arrival in 2021-22. In three seasons with the school, the left-shot defenseman has 10 goals and 81 points in 111 games. This past season, however, was a particularly strong year for him, as he set new career highs with four goals, 27 assists, and 31 points.
With Behrens taking such a big step forward this season, it is quite possible that he could elect to begin his professional career instead of playing his senior season. If he does, he would be a solid addition to the Avalanche's system as he continues to develop his game.
Behrens has the tools to emerge as an impactful NHL defenseman later down the road. The 2021 second-round pick is smart defensively, incredibly quick, throws the body, and chips in offensively. As a result, it is hard not to feel excited about his future.
Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see if Behrens signs his entry-level contract or decides to play out his senior season with Denver.
