Saturday night didn’t end the way Oilers fans would have liked. Fret not – for there is still hope. Some fans might lose hope, but McDavid has only ever had his mind on one thing: the Stanley Cup.

Trending Oilers Stories

They’ve been in much worse positions. Last year, the Oilers grabbed their first win in Game 4. This year, the series was tied 2-2 heading back to Edmonton.

Now the Oilers find themselves in the familiar position of being down 3-2 in the series. Their backs are against the wall once again.

But the Oilers can draw on another generational player for inspiration, and an even more dangerous thing – hope.

Sidney Crosby won his first Stanley Cup under similar circumstances to McDavid. His Pittsburgh Penguins were having a Cup Final rematch against the Detroit Red Wings. And, similarly to that series, the Penguins dropped Game 5 by a 5-0 score. Then, they won Games 6 & 7.

Will McDavid and the Oilers follow the same script? Or will they go down with the ship in Game 6?

If I were a betting man, I wouldn’t bet against McDavid.
