Oilers Defenseman Ranked as Second Most Overrated Player
One of the Edmonton Oilers top defensemen was voted as one of the most "overrated" players according to The Athletic's player poll.
EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers are in the middle of their All-Star week break. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will lead a team together at the All-Star game. With news on the slower end of the spectrum this week it's a great time to release the results of polls and surveys.
And that's exactly what The Athletic did earlier today. They asked approximately 200 players to answer questions like; who's the best goalie, who has the most punch-able face and many more.
One question that stood out was, "Who is the most overrated player in the league?" The results are interesting to say the least.
The highest result was 26.73% for the "Other" designation. In total 27 players make up for other - each one only earning one vote each. The top three vote-getters were actually Matthew Tkachuk, Darnell Nurse and Trevor Zegras.
Tkachuk finished with 6.93% of the votes, Nurse with 7.92% and finally Zegras with 12.87%. The article points out that Nurse was cited, primarily because of his contract rather than his abilities.
All things made equal - I don't believe that Nurse cares too much about the results of this poll. He's probably enjoying his team's current 16-game win streak and meteoric rise up the Western Conference standings.
He's in the second year of a $9.25-million eight-year deal. He has 17 points in 45 games - his lowest points per game pace since the 2017-18 season. Additionally, he's playing the least amount of ice time since that time too - with 22:25 of average ice time per game.
