There was an unconventional ending to the Edmonton Oilers and Buffalo Sabres game.
EDMONTON -- Owen Power had thought that he had scored the game winner of the Edmonton Oilers vs Buffalo Sabres - and then he didn't.

At that point in overtime, the Sabres had predominately maintained control of possession in the extra frame. The Oilers had some good chances - and should have had more due to at least one missed penalty call from the referees.
With two seconds remaining Power snuck a shot past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner.

Alex Tuch stole the puck from Darnell Nurse - who was tripped on the play - and had a chance, but the puck went wide. Power collected the puck, searched for a shooting lane on the blue line and then approached the faceoff circle and sniped a shot past Skinner.
Once the goal went in both teams promptly exited the ice thinking the game was over.
Spoiler alert - it wasn't.
There was a rule change in September of 2019 regarding Coach's Challenge's and video reviews. According to Rule 38.3- "In the final minute of play in the 3rd period and at any point in Overtime, the NHL Situation Room will initiate the review of any scenario that would otherwise be subject to a Coach's Challenge."
The NHL Situation Room deemed the play to be offside - so time was added to the clock and both teams were dragged back onto the ice to settle the game.
Overtime was not enough - so this game went to a shootout. Tage Thompson and Tuch scored for Sabres in the shootout, while Leon Draisaitl scored the lone tally for the Oilers in the end of game competition. Ryan McLeod and Warren Foegele scored the only goals for the Oilers in the loss.
At the end of the day the Oilers got a single point - but they still managed to lose the game...twice.
