EDMONTON -- The first trade deadline move for the Edmonton Oilers was consummated earlier today.

Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick were traded to the Oilers from the Anaheim Ducks. They gave up a couple conditional picks as well as the team's 2024 1st round draft pick.

Elsewhere in the hockey universe a few other teams were making moves. Vladimir Tarasenko was the first name off the board today. But one of the more shocking deals involved a defenseman that the Oilers had been taking a look at.

Sean Walker was traded to the Colorado Avalanche for a 1st round pick and Ryan Johansen. Johansen was then promptly placed on waivers.

The Oilers were rumored to be in on Walker's common line mate - Nick Seeler. Unfortunately for the Oilers, Seeler just signed an extension with the Philadelphia Flyers earlier today as well.

From the sounds of things, Ken Holland will keep working the phones to see what he can bring in on defense.
